Dong Hoi Airport to Hue City

Dong Hoi to Hue by private car is shorter route than Phong Nha to Hue by private car. The distance between Dong Hoi city and Hue city is about 180 km. And it takes about 3,5 hours of driving. On the way from Dong Hoi to Hue, you can stop along the way at some beautiful scenes.

One of worth stop to mention is Vinh Moc Tunnels. North Vietnam army used Vinh Moc tunnels to fight against the Americans during the Vietnam war and used by the civilian population to protect themselves from the American bombing. These tunnels cover several kilometers on the north shore of the Ben Hai River, in Vinh Moc village near the village of Dong Hoi, Quang Tri province in the center of Vietnam.

Another stop is Hien Luong Bridge. During the war, Hien Luong Bridge on Ben Hai River divided North and South Vietnam. Many Vietnamese people laid down their lives in there to fight for national independence and freedom. Historical relic sites located on both banks of the river have been recognized as special national historical relics.

Next stop you can do is La Vang Church. Our Lady of La Vang is the central and national shrine of Vietnam, approximately 60 kilometers from the former capitol Hue. The name is derived from a type of fern which used to grow in great quantities in the region. Every three years a national pilgrimage organizes for the whole country which was to have a special meaning even after the separation of South and North. In 1959, La Vang was officially declared a national shrine, marking the 300 years of the Church’s presence in Vietnam.
